US actor Omari Hardwick ‘surprises’ local rapper Nasty C

Cape Town - American heart-throb Omari Hardwick, who was in South Africa to film a new Castle Lite commercial, used his time here to also collaborate with Mzansi’s 19-year-old rap maestro, Nasty C (Nsikayesizwe Ngcobo).

The duo recorded two songs in two days, one of which will be featured on Nasty C’s album, Bad Hair, set to be released on September 23.

Hardwick is known for the character Ghost he portrays on the drama series Power.

Of Nasty C, he said: “I am not that familiar [with] South African music, but obviously I know of AKA. I was blown away a month ago when I heard this
19-year-old sensation [Nasty C]. He’s a genius and I wanted to meet him and just see what could come of our studio session. And it was amazing.”

Nasty C told City Press that before their collaboration, he only knew Hardwick as an actor.

“He truly surprised me. He is a wordsmith, a true spoken-word poet,” Nasty C said.

“He [Hardwick] liked the beat of A Star Is Born, on which I feature Riky Rick, and we just extended the song. I really enjoyed the process and look forward to future collaborations.”

Nasty C added that working with Hardwick taught him that artists think alike. “Whether you are an actor or a musician, at the end of the day, we all click and think the same.”
