WATCH: Gospel star Lebo Sekgobela tells Anele about her road to platinum status

Cape Town – Gospel star Lebo Sekgobela – whose album, Restored is multiple times platinum – sat down with Anele Mdoda and told her about her long road to South African superstardom.

You might not know Lebo Sekgobela, but you’ve probably heard her version of Lion of Judah, because as Anele says: “Every taxi, every car, just everyone has been playing this song.”

Lebo tells Anele that it didn’t bother her, that her albums before the platinum-selling smash Restored didn’t sell as much, explaining that it was God’s timing.

The 35-year-old also mentions all the talent contests that she entered and was rejected from - like Coca-Cola Pop Star - and that her mother was a domestic worker who could not afford to send her to school to be a chartered accountant.

When talking about her fame the singer said: “I pray to God that this anointing must not change me. I must stay as humble and the person that God created me to be.”

Musical artist Brenda Mtambo is also featured on this episode of Real talk with Anele. The talk show airs every week day on SABC 3 at 17:00.
