Johannesburg – You may not know who Weza Matomane is, but chances are, you've probably heard his voice before.
From adverts for radio to narrations for TV shows, Weza has done it all. In fact, when you hear him speak, you'll probably react the same way I did – "Ah, you're that guy!"
I assume it's the way most people respond, which is why he goes by name Weza "That Guy" Matomane.
I heard about Weza through a colleague who had worked with him before. She had described his success as a voiceover artist, telling me about some of the campaigns he had bagged in the past.
We met for a chat weeks before I had filmed our interview. I remember becoming completely entranced when, without warning, he started speaking in his "radio" voice.
"I used to imitate people on TV," Weza tells me, saying that he dreamed of being a YO-TV presenter as a child.
That dream never became a reality, but that did not stop the multi-talented artist from cementing his name as one of the biggest voiceover stars in the industry, working with brands like Dialdirect, Mzansi Magic and SABC1 just to name a few.
Perhaps now that you know who he is you will find yourself listening more closely to the voices you hear on your radio or television, and every now and again find yourself exclaiming: "Ah, he's that guy!"
