WATCH: Princess Charlene takes the twins on their first-ever African safari

Cape Town - Princess Charlene of Monaco introduced the royal twins to their African heritage while on safari at a private game reserve.

The former South African Olympic swimmer was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and relocated with her family to South Africa when she was 11 years old. 

Princess Charlene and the 4-year-old twins got to experience the African wildlife up close, and saw zebras, giraffes, hippos and more.  

Princess Charlene shared a video of highlights from their trip on Instagram, writing: "First African Experience."

The video is set to  Johnny Clegg's popular 1987 hit Spirit Of The Great Heart. In the video Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques flash big smiles as they sit at the back of a game vehicle, and run around the park!
