We downloaded Bonang's new app and here's what we thought

Cape Town - I downloaded local TV personality Bonang Matheba's new app - Bonang by Cell C - and this is what I thought.

Ahead of her nationwide book tour, Queen B launched a brand-new app, where you get "exclusive content" and "behind-the-scenes access".

The app is currently only available for Android devices and will be available for iOS at a later stage.

DOWNLOAD AND SUBSCRIPTION

The app is available on Google Play and download process is pretty easy.

After the download is complete and the app is opened, you are prompted to subscribe by entering your cellphone number.

A pin is then SMS'ed to you, and you then type the pin in the box provided.

And just like that, you're subscribed! (Note: A subscription fee is charged. Scroll down for full cost breakdown.)

NOTE: If you download, and don't subscribe you won't be able to access all the content.

I'M SUBSCRIBED, NOW WHAT?

There are five categories you can choose from on the app:

Love it: Browse through all Bonang's favourite things including: lunch spots, clothes and hobbies.

Do it: Here you get to see what Bonang's day looks like, and all the cool places and people she hangs out with.

Play it: These are songs and videos Bonang has handpicked just for you.

24/7: All Bonang's social media updates are gathered here.

AMA: You can post a question for Bonang, and she'll write back. You can also scroll though what other people have asked.

I know what you're thinking. "I already follow Bonang on social media, why do I need the app?"

Well, according to the app's FAQ section most of the content on the Bonang by Cell C app is all-exclusive and will not be available anywhere else.

But at the time of publishing, there was no "never-before-seen" content on the app.

Also, it's to be noted that with the AMA feature you can chat to Bonang and stand to win a meet and greet.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST:

For Cell C subscribers:

Prepaid and Top Up are charged R3/day (First week is free).

Postpaid is charged R50/month.

Non Cell C users are charged R60/month.

Note: Non-Cell C subscribers won't be eligible for promotional draws and prizes.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall I thought the app looks great, and it is extremely easy to navigate. Even though the content is very repetivitive of what we see on social media, it's presented in a very easy to read way. I also didn't like that you couldn't click out to social media.

R60 a month for this type of service is a bit excessive (That's just me!). But hey, if you want to feel closer to Bonang, then go for it.

Just to put it in perspective ,R60 can get you a Spur burger, onion rings and chips!

It's also just important to note that even if you uninstall the app, you will still be charged. To unsubscribe from the app SMS the word "STOP" to 14720. (Free SMS)
