We found out what Babes Wodumo’s latest hit is actually about

Cape Town – ICYMI: South Africa’s newest music darling Babes Wodumo was challenged by The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) "to come out boldly to denounce and condemn drug abuse, underage drinking also irresponsible and unlawful fun.." following the release of her latest single, Mercedes.

COSAS said in their statement - released on Facebook -  that although they would like to believe that the song is not about the drug called Mercedes, they feel strongly that Babes coming out to condemn drug use would discourage association - among the youth – between the song and using narcotics.

The Juice reached out to Wodumo’s manager, Victor Dlokolo, about the statement made by COSAS and the entire situation.

Victor said the following:

"The music is out and people will interpret as they want but Babes wrote this song about her dad. How he always wished to own a luxury vehicle and how she wants to buy him one. There is nothing in the lyrics that say anything about drug use, the song is about Mercedes (the car brand) and Babes is posing (on the cover artwork) on the hood of a Mercedes. I think that people who have that kind of a mindset heard the song and made the association but there’s nothing in the song that says so. (sic)"

There you have it, Babes’ song is about cars and not drugs.

The Juice also reached out to COSAS at the time of writing this piece but there was no answer on their listed number attached to their Facebook page.
