Cape Town - We review the Afternoon Drive with Xolani Gwala on radio 702.
Radio presenter Xolani Gwala, who found himself on the drive-time slot a few years ago, continues to rake in good figures for 702. In my opinion, he outshines his predecessors, David O’Sullivan and Ray White.
Gwala hosts the show, interviews guests and, more importantly, gives listeners an insider’s view on leading stories as they develop. He’s a master of analysing breaking news.
The secret of his success is his respect for his listeners, who are given a chance to set the agenda and speak their minds.
I enjoy the feature “What in the world happened to...”, which seeks to catch up with personalities who disappeared from the spotlight. Recently, he caught up with Kaizer Chiefs striker Shane McGregor.
But my favourite side of Gwala comes out on Fridays when he kicks back and ends the week with the 702 Unplugged feature, where renowned and undiscovered artists sing live in the studio. – Sisipho Zamxaka
