Cape Town - We caught up with Khanyi Mbau's social media and brand manager, Dylan Kardashian, about her brand-new celeb app, Khanyi Mbau Digital.

Dylan Kardashian - real name Dylan Musanhu - first gained famed after Nicki Minaj regrammed a side-by-side photo featuring him and her. Follow Dylan on Instagram here.

At the time of publishing the popular app reached number two on the Apple Store.

Speaking about Khanyi's involvement in developing the app, Dylan says that she was "very involved."

"We worked on it - just the two of us - for a couple of months and she was very specific about certain details, photos and features," he says.

He adds that Khanyi always put the fans first, saying: "She put the needs of the fans first because the app is for the fans. They have to love it and feel at home. The day the app was approved in both stores, I FaceTimed her to tell her the good news and she couldn't say a word. Just tears falling down her face. She couldn't believe that she now had a digital app under her belt."

The app has been available on Google Play since 2 August and available since 6 August on the Apple App Store. But they kept the announcement under wraps as they were still reviewing and tweaking.

"We kept going back to the drawing board and tweaking it. From colours, fonts, photos and features until we were both convinced that it was ready. We did not want to rush and put out something created with no passion. It had to be right the first time," he says.

When asked about the inspiration for the look and feel of the app, Dylan says that it was all Khanyi, saying: "She is specific about everything. She wanted fans to be able to access different features and platforms without having to exit the app. Hence why all her social media platforms, photos, news updates, 'Khalenda' and media (videos) are accessible directly from the app."

Dylan emphasises the importance of the fans, throughout the developing process: "Fans are what fuel Khanyi Mbau."

The fan experiece is very important. "Fans get to create their own profiles in the 'Fan Club' section just like any other social media platform. The section allows them to customise their profile picture, cover photo, bio, location and social media links," he says.

"Another cool feature is 'Fan Club Pics,' where pictures are taken of Khanyi with her fans (by her team) and uploaded to the section," he adds.

The app also features a "Khalenda" that contains all the important dates in Khanyi's diary. The "Media Centre" handpicks videos and interviews. We were told that this is also where she will be dropping new music.

The app costs R29.99 to download. About the decision for a once-off payment, Dylan says: "We know South Africa is in recession, which is why the app costs only R29.99 to download. There are no monthly subscription fees after that."
