Popular DJ's heartache as his child dies in house fire

Johannesburg -Former 5FM and YFM DJ, Clive "C-Live" Shabalala, was rushed to hospital on Monday after a blaze swept through his house, killing his 11-year-old son.

The DJ is currently in a Johannesburg hospital, where he is sedated and being treated for severe burns sustained while trying to save his son from the inferno.

Talking to Sowetan, C-Live's mother confirmed that the DJ was in hospital and that her grandson had died in a fire that had "burned everything to ashes."

"We came from KZN. They called us at about 11am and I could hear the child crying 'please daddy help me' in the background. I could hear the child crying and Clive insisting to get inside the flames, trying to save the child," Virginia Shabalala says.

The boy's mother had died on Valentine's day earlier this year.

C-Live will receive trauma counselling once he has been stabilised.

Messages of support from friends and fans, including Bonang and Vusi Nova, continue to pour in for C-Live and his family.

Meanwhile, police say they are investigating a case of arson.
