The protection order against comedian and ventriloquist Conrad Koch and his puppet, Chester Missing has been lifted in the Randburg Magistrates Court today.
The protection order was obtained by Steve Hofmeyr a few weeks ago. The order was prompted by a very public Twitter war over Steve's Apartheid tweet a few weeks ago. Steve tweeted: "Sorry to offend but in my book blacks were the architects of apartheid. Go figure."
Chester who is known for his satirical take on SA politics embarked on a fully-fledged war in an attempt to publicly call out Steve for the tweet.
Steve was granted a protection order against Chester, which prevented him from making any comment about the singer publicly.Today the court heard arguments from both parties as to why the protection order should be made permanent and why it should be lifted.
Steve's lawyer, Dan Roodt told the court that the singer had suffered unduly because of Chester's tweets. "It's clear that Steve Hofmeyr has suffered mental, psychological and economic harm because of @chestermissing tweets," he told the court.
However, Steve's team failed to convince the court that there was sufficient grounds to leave the order in place.
