DailyMail in the UK are reporting that Oscar Pistorius has been allowed more privileges because of good behaviour and because he does not pose a threat to anyone.
His status has been upgraded from category B to category A. This means that he is now able to hug and kiss visitors, own a radio and wear jewellery.
The site, who broke the story today, claims the upgrade includes a host of other privileges including making more phone calls, taking up a hobby and having a bigger budget to buy treats and toiletries.
The news comes just two days after the two year anniversary of the death of Reeva Steenkamp.
"This has boosted him a lot. He has been very low in prison, although he seems to be getting all the support from the prison authorities that he needs," a source told DailyMail. "His new status means he will be able to have more visits – there are a lot of family members who would like to go and see him, but in the past have stayed away so that it is mostly Carl, Aimee, his aunt and grandmother who take the allocated slots," adds the insider.
Up until now, OP was not allowed to touch visitors and they were separated by a glass window.
Correctional Services have been unavailable for comment.
