Reports: Fans offer to give Senzo a tombstone

Johannesburg - After hearing that their hero was buried with no tombstone, fans of footballer Senzo Meyiwa have offered to come to his family's aid .

Just last week it was reported that confusion over a tombstone donation had led to the late Bafana Bafana footballer's grave not having a headstone. With further reports of his family allegedly being too broke to perform special rituals for Senzo (more on that here), fans have offered to help the family erect a tombstone.

According to the Daily Sun, a businessman man from Diepsloot, Gauteng has apparently offered to erect a tombstone on Senzo’s grave in Durban’s Heroes’ Acre in Chesterville, KZN.

“I want to offer the family the stone of their choice and I will take my crew to erect it,” said Rob Drake, owner of Afri-Tombstones .

The tombstone and the labour could cost Rob and his business as much as R50 000, but he says it will be worth it to honour his sporting hero.

“I loved watching the young talent of Senzo being nurtured to the level of national captain that he became. It hurts me to see a soccer hero who was loved by millions around the country with a grave that’s just a heap of sand in the sun,” Rob told the paper.
