Godfather of Kwaito, Senyaka Kekana died last week with barely two cents to rub together.
According to City Press, Senyaka died broke and now his family are pleading frantically for financial assistance to give the Kwaito legend a proper send off.
Senyaka's brother Papa Mayisela told the paper that the family was asking anyone and everyone to assist financially in funeral preperations and had already recieved pledges and donations from as far away as Lesotho.
He says that the family will use the money to hold the funeral and open a trust fund.
A family left broken
But Senyaka's empty wallet could not compare to the emptiness felt by his family after his passing this last week.
His daughter, Hanna, told the paper that he sent her an emotional and deeply personal message before he died, telling her how much he loved and appreciated her.
"I responded 'I love you too, Daddy.'" I feel I have just lost a part of me. No one will replace my father," she says.
Hanna was estranged from her father for a long time, but says that they had grown closer in the months leading to his death and "had plans together".
His death left her devastated. "Why would God take him away from me so soon?" she says.
She says the rest of the family, including her 12 year old half-brother are just as heartbroken.
