Scammers using Kelly Khumalo's simcard to con her friends

Scammers are cashing in on Senzo Meyiwa's death.

Just days after the soccer player was killed at Kelly Khumalo's home, someone is using the singer's number to scam her friends. According to Daily Sun, Kelly's friends, which include the author of her book Melinda Ferguson and singer Wanda Baloyi, have all received messages from the her cellphone number asking for financial assistance.

This is reportedly the number of the phone which the police confiscated as part of their investigation.

The paper is reporting that Wanda fell for the scam and deposited R3 500, thinking she was helping Kelly. She said, "I can’t cry about it but I’m sad people can use such a situation to make money. I’m glad I’m okay and nothing has happened to me but I cannot just forget about it."

Another friend, Athi Geleba told Daily Sun that she sent Kelly a message of condolence and got a reply saying it was Kempton Park Police Station which needed R3 100. "But then I realised something was wrong. I tried to call the number but no one answered, so I informed the police."

Percy Vilakazi, who spoke on the singer's behalf, told the paper that they encourage the people who received the message to report the case to the police.

"People must know this doesn’t come from Kelly," he said.
