Mandisa Mkhize is the latest victim of scammers.
According to Sowetan, someone claiming to be Mandisa sent a text message a day after Senzo Meyiwa was killed. In the message, the person asked for R2000 for groceries.
Senzo's friends are apparently worried that someone is using his phone to extort money, Sowetan reported. One of his friends told the paper that she received an SMS after sending a message of condolences.
The message read: "Pirates will send money tomrw derz no food here plz borrow us only R2000 (sic)." She then responded by telling the scammer to send banking details and said she's transfer the money.
But the scammer responded: "Send via ewallet plz." The woman told the person: "I can't do e-wallet, I am not using FNB, r you@ home? I can drop by after work ngikulethele mali (to bring you the money), maybe ngelunch (at lunch time), give me the address, I will come there." But the scammer never responded to that message.
Last week, it was reported that scammers were using Kelly Khumalo's phone to ask her friends for money. The friends included Melinda Ferguson and singer Wanda Baloyi.
