Senzo Meyiwa memorial service underway

Thousands of fans have gathered at the Standard Bank Arena for the memorial service in honour of soccer star Senzo Meyiwa and two other fallen sports personalities.

This memorial service is the first one, which will lead up to Senzo's official funeral at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.  The slain soccer's star's funeral was initially supposed to take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi but this was changed because the venue was too small.

Tomorrow there will be a second memorial service held at the Durban City Hall, which will be open to the public.

Meanwhile, The officials from the South African Council of Churches have started the service with a prayer. They've also sent their condolences to Senzo's family.

The service is expected to be attended by high-profile dignitaries and celebrities who will join fans in remembering the fallen stars. So far Winnie and Zindzi Mandela, SAFA president Danny Jordaan, DJ Cleo, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula and athete Caster Semenya have already arrived.
