Johannesburg - The family of Senzo Meyiwa could face financial ruin after delays in paying out the slain footballer's policies.
According to The Star, the family has yet to receive any money from Senzo's life policy because of the lengthy delays in police investigations into Senzo's murder.
Apparently the policy was worth an estimated R5 million at the time of Senzo's death, more than 8 months ago.
Senzo's dad, Sam, says the family is struggling with the financial burden of having to look after Senzo's young family. He says Orlando Pirates have been in contact with him regarding the policy but they too have become frustrated with the delays.
“I don't know, I have been waiting for too long. They (Pirates) say they are still waiting for people who are supposed to pay. The other day they said they are still waiting for the police report. It’s very frustrating, even my life is in danger now,” Sam told the newspaper.
Police have confirmed that they have been contacted by the PSL about the insurance policy and to ask about the police report, but they say this report should have no bearing on the payout.
