Trevor Gumbi on playing a gay character on Rockville

Trevor Gumbi gives us great laughs on a regular basis. But the comedian and TV personality has his serious moments, especially when it comes to being an actor. Trevor plays Sipho, a gay man, on Mzansi Magic's Rockville, which returns for a third season next year.

Trevor spoke to heat magazine about his acting role.  He said: "It was challenging, but I love a challenge.  Everyone knew that I was funny and I played funny roles, but then I got the opportunity to try a drama. I took it with both hands because I wanted to stretch myself and see how far I could go with it."

On playing a gay man, Trevor said: "You know what? I'm loving. When I took on the role of Sipho, I thought of it as just playing a man, not a gay man. That's not a big deal." And the exciting part about Trevor's role? He'll be getting a love interest in the new season.

Although he didn't reveal much, he said he doesn't think making out with a gay guy would be a big deal. "Fortunately for me, I have lots of gay friends and gay family members, so for me it's not out of my  world. It's just sexuality - which is how I think of Sipho being gay..."
