Twitter fingers the wrong actress for drug bust

Johannesburg – Within minutes after news broke that a South African actress had been arrested during a drug bust at OR Tambo, Twitter had identified a suspect.

The social media sleuths were quick to name local actress,Stevie French as the alleged culprit that was caught smuggling drugs worth an estimated R4.6m into the country.

Without much proof news spread and French, who was chilling by the pool in Dubai, was alerted that she was now being labeled a drug mule.

The actress, who starred in local soap Isidingo, was shocked when she found out that she’d been caught in a drug storm without her knowledge.

“You're in the pool for 5mins and Twitter has a hernia. thank goodness for outdoor wifi! #ItWasntStevie promise. (sic)” Stevie tweeted and included a pic as proof that she was innocent.

“I feel a mixture of gratitude and shock/horror that you guys think I'm such a badass....or an idiot. Probably the latter #ItWasntStevie ,” she added.

Meanwhile, former Isidingo actress Jay Anstey has also been fingered by Twitter detectives as being a possible suspect. She called The Juice team to give us a heads-up, saying she's very happily drinking juice at a Joburg restaurant right now.

The official Twitter account for the SAPS has issued a statement saying that the woman who was arrested was not a celebrity.
