Uzalo gives R20 million to KZN

 

Johannesburg -  In case you were wondering how much it costs to produce the biggest telenovela in South Africa, well Uzalo, which is filmed and produced in Durban and KwaMashu township, has reportedly spent a total of R20 million for local services such as hospitality, property leasing and transport businesses - a huge cash boost for the KZN community.

Sbu Mpungose, the spokesperson of Stained Glass Pictures said: "A bulk of the on-screen talent featured on Uzalo and behind-the-scenes production crew is recruited from KZN, which begins to stem the creative brain-drain from the province and in turns grows the support industries of TV production industry."

The news comes after local artists in the area accused the soapie of not including them in talent searches for the show. However, Uzalo says everyone was considered and the search was based on talent...
