“We’ll teach John Newman how to play the drums”, Beatenberg

South African Pop band, Beatenberg, will be opening for UK pop- soul singer, John Newman, later this week. We caught up with the bands drummer, Robin Brink, to chat about John Newman and the bands secret plan to teach him the drums:

You guys are opening for John Newman later this week. Are you excited?

Yeah, we are really really excited. We’ve been rehearsing the last few nights and we really amped to play some new tracks off our album which is coming out soon. So, look out for some new stuff at the show.

Sounds amazing, we can’t wait. But tell us, do you even like John Newman?

Yah, I do! To be honest I only really heard of him when it was announced that he was coming but I gave him a listen and I think it’s cool what he’s doing with pop music. I think in the bigger picture of pop it’s pretty cool that someone is doing something with soul.

Do you think he plays the drums? Would you be willing to teach him, like backstage?

Yeah, I think he could!  It would be pretty sick if he would let me teach him.  If I did teach him I would probably teach him some complicated Afri-cuban beat

Your fans have made Twitter and Facebook pages dedicated to your band, is this a sign that you guys are becoming like 1 direction?

I don’t really know 1 direction but I guess we kind of like that. If they a boy band then I guess we similar but, like, boy bands never play instruments. So I think we’re cooler than them but if it came down to it I would be happy to fill the 1 direction shoes
