Yizo Yizo's 'Chester' reflects on his dark days...

Dumisani Dlamini gained a lot of fame for his role as Chester on controversial drama, Yizo Yizo. The actor, who also starred in Sarafina, quickly lost his glory and disappeared from the limelight. It was during this time that he needed his friends the most, but they deserted him.

He told Move: "I had lots of friends, but they all disappeared. The phone calls I used to receive every day, people wanting to hang out with me, all of that was gone. I was in a very dark space, wanting to return to TV, but the roles had just dried up. At some point I thought I was cursed." During his absence from the screen, Move reported, the actor was commissioned by the Department of Arts and Culture to conduct motivational talks and acting workshops around, among other places, the Hillbrow Theatre.

"At that time, even though I was working, I felt empty because television has always been my first love. I felt like life was rotating backwards. Every door I was knocking on was shut in my face," he told the mag.

But the star has made comeback, starring at Mbodla on Isibaya. He said when he returned to TV, the lost friends returned. He explained: "That's when I realised that actually... these people never loved me, but they only loved what I did and the glamour attached to it."
