Zola made his TV comeback on Vuzu Amp's Ayeye on Monday evening.
The controversial kwaito singer, who's had his fair share of drama, seems be back on the right track. His role on the series came about after he was approached by its creators, Bomb Productions. This is the same production company that created Yizo Yizo, where Zola played a thug.
He told The Star newspaper that the opportunity came at the right time. "... I was longing to get back to the soil. So, here we are." Zola, who plays a recycler on the show, said he couldn't be happier to play "one of my brothers".
He added: "You know, most of those men pushing the carts on the street, they’re married men, with children and cows and traditional farms in places like Lesotho. They have cellphones, they operate surprisingly normally. Some have had a lot of pain. Child soldiers, they've seen violence. But here, they even have a hierarchy. Some are royalty. They play by a set of rules. Of course, they may also cross over into other underworlds where drug dealers may come in-between driving fancy cars."
He continued: "I respect their integrity. They know everybody – gardeners, car guards. So the character I play is in their world, and I really consider it an honour..."
Welcome back!
