AKA named Hot for 2016 by BBC 1XTRA

Johannesburg - While holidaying in Bazaruto after a grueling December performance schedule, AKA has been named as one of the artists in BBC Radio’s 1Xtra’s annual ‘Hot For…’ list.

The list, which is released at the beginning of every year, features brilliant new artists that are tipped for great things according to the major station. The list has been the first to predict many artists that have gone on to greater success including Drake, Tinie Tempah, Emeli Sande, Sam Smith and Stormzy.

The announcement of the Hot for 2016 acts took place on Thursday evening on Mistajam’s BBC Radio 1Xtra show.

Super Mega as AKA is affectionately known has a great run in the British market.

His massive #1 single #BADDEST is currently on the BBC 1XTRA playlist and will get spot plays on BBC 1.

This is his second single after his Pan African award winning smash hit All Eyes on Me to get on BBC 1 XTRA, yet again breaking records for a South African artist.

Last year, AKA was officially the number #1 most played South African artist on all radio stations nationwide for 2015.

AKA beat out the likes of Black Coffee, Micasa and KO locally, and internationally he beat out the likes of Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd by 2880 plays; making AKA the King of South African radio airwaves.

AKA’s number #1 status is huge not only for any artist for the amount of great music that came out, but most importantly for an artist who didn't drop an album in 2015. His gold selling album levels was released in 2014.

The 2016 “Hot for…” list of 2016 is as follows:
