Johannesburg- AKA has come out strongly against the violence that erupted at the University of Free State on Monday afternoon, after protest action by students came to a head.
Students at the university embarked on a protest against Afrikaans being used as a medium of teaching, as well as outsourcing of university staff.
This led to a violent stand off between protesters and rugby players on Monday afternoon, when a video of rugby players and supporters assaulting protestors went viral.
The video was apparently taken by an eyewitness who was at the FNB Varsity Cup rugby match between the UFS Shimlas and the Madibaz when protestors disrupted the match.
All academic activities at the university were suspended by management until further notice.
Numerous celebrities and high-profile personalities have lent their voice to the wave of violence currently gripping the country.
Taking to social media on Monday, rapper AKA strongly condemned a picture currently circulating on the internet, which compares the 1976 Soweto uprising to what is currently unfolding at UFS.
"We're going through a very turbulent period right now. Vital issues that have been swept under the carpet for so long. People are fed up yo!," AKA tweeted.
