AKA's turbulent year

Johannesburg - From Twitter wars to physical altercations and an alleged cheating scandal, AKA has had one bumpy year.

The Baddest rapper found himself making headlines on countless occasions for all the wrong reasons this year. At the top of that list is the ongoing public feud between AKA and Cassper, which took a turn for the worse this year after damning diss tracks were released by both teams.

In August this year, Cassper shocked fans when he took to social media alleging that AKA had walked up to him in a nightclub, and slapped him. At the time, AKA denied the claims but later admitted to it on Twitter after being accused of being involved in another altercation at a club.

Another incident of violence that got attention was a viral video of AKA kicking a fan off stage at the Durban July after-party. He defended his actions, saying the security team was sleeping. AKA also got into a Twitter war with DJ Black Coffee, publicly slamming him for getting involved in the hip-hop industry. This saw the likes of Euphonik and other high-profile dj's weighing in on the situation.

Then AKA came under public scrutiny yet again when his baby mama, DJ Zinhle implicated him in an alleged cheating scandal with Bonang Matheba. During a tell-all interview with MTV Base Africa earlier this year, opening up about some of the headlines surrounding him, AKA again denied the speculation. “I don’t want to call it mistakes, I feel like I have made choices that have put me before her, before my child and before my family,” he said.

Despite making headline, coming under fire on social media for his opinions and being scutinised for the choices he’s made, AKA has still raked in numerous awards this year.

The rapper also takes his role as a dad seriously, and continues to produce chart-topping songs. AKA recently revealed that he’s decided to focus on what’s important in his life and discard the rest. And as the most played South African artist on local radio, AKA ignoring the hate just proves that he's got what it take to be the Supa Mega!
