Johannesburg- Metro FM radio personality Paul Mtirara is reportedly taking legal action against the SABC for unfair dismissal.
Paul, who hosts the Chill Factor every Sunday, was shown the door last week.
SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed to The Juice that Paul's contract with the public broadcaster was terminated, but would not be drawn into divulging any further details surrounding the decision.
"I can confirm that Paul Mtirara's contract was terminated after a serious contravention on his part," Kaizer said.
Kaizer explained that he could not comment on the reports of an impending lawsuit against the SABC, because the public broadcaster has only heard about it through the media.
"We cannot comment on the lawsuit because we have only read about it. Every person has the right to challenge such a decision, but Paul is fully aware of why we are at the stage we are at," Kaizer explained.
Speaking to the Sowetan, Paul's lawyer Graham Moshoana confirmed that they were taking legal action against the SABC.
"My instructions are to sue. We believe that the SABC has breached the contract. We are going to the high court. Our first prize would be reinstatement or alternatively they would have to pay damages. He did not get a (verbal) warning or a letter, he got nothing," Graham said.
