Johannesburg - Have you ever wondered what it would have been like living with the late music icon Brenda "Ma Brrr" Fassie?
While many of us can only imagine what kind of woman the energetic woman was at home, musician Judith Sephuma has given us a hint on what it was like.
Talking to Gareth Cliff on CliffCentral this week, Judith revealed that she lived with Brenda for a month when Ma Brrr was topping the charts and Judith was still trying to make it big in the industry
“She was mad!," Judith reveals, without giving too much away. "It was crazy. But that entire month was a ‘make or break’ moment for my career. Living with her, I had to work with her and made money for the first time in my life,” she adds.
Judith says she ran away from home when she was 13 and sneaked into one of Brenda's shows to sing for her. Brenda was so impressed that she arranged for Judith to come live with her and even organised a driver to pick her up at the bus station.
Judith says she had a special relationship with Brenda, but in later years Brenda would often joke about Judith having too many children.
"She used to beat me up about how many kids I had. She would go: 'Why must we have so many kids? Such a beautiful singer but why...' Twice I opened up for her and before she went on she would say: 'You know, I love this woman but she has too many kids," laughs Judith.
