Kardashian Beauty Africa launch isn't all it promised to be

Johannesburg - At first glance, the Kardashian Beauty Africa launch looked set to be worthy of any of the family’s famous sisters.

From a stylish black carpet to welcome drinks by Pongracz and Cruz, and the subtle decor – it was impressive.

But...

Held at Sandton City’s Foschini outlet, guests had been invited for a sneak peek at the first batch of the reality stars’ goodies in South Africa.

But all that glitters wasn’t gold.

In attendance was Thando Thabethe – touted as the host for the evening on the event’s Facebook page. But, really, she was merely whisked past the crowd by security, into a huge (and rather empty) VIP area.

She and some competition winners, I might add, were the only recipients of goodie bags on the night.

I’m not sure Kim would approve.

While the hosts went to great lengths to ensure the crowd was suitably boozed up, there was not even so much as a canapé in sight, never mind a seat for all the girls in heels.

The event, which was seemingly open to the public, took place in a cramped front section of the store while shoppers walked the aisles.

While promo girls randomly sprayed the brand’s fragrances in the air as they moved among guests, I couldn’t shake the feeling that ordinary shoppers were peering at the guests as if they were fish in a glass bowl.

Maybe this was done to replicate the feeling of being on reality TV?

And the products? Well, although the set-up for hair and make-up was exquisite, and the video of Kim getting dolled up was a nice touch, the actual goods and the stylists were tucked away at the exit and only spotted on the way out.
