Kelly Khumalo rises above her challenges

Johannesburg -  It’s been over one year since Kelly Khumalo lost the love of her life, Senzo Meyiwa. The soccer star was killed in an alleged botched robbery in October last year.

Senzo was shot and killed while visiting Kelly’s childhood home in Vosloorus. At the time of Senzo’s death, Kelly came under fire, with many blaming her for his death, saying she has bad luck on the men in her life.

It certainly didn’t help that Senzo’s father, Sam, was outspoken about his dislike of Kelly and how she had ‘ruined’ his son. About two months after Senzo’s tragic death, Kelly decided to return to work and began doing shows to promote her album, Back To My Roots.

This saw Kelly come under immense criticism by people, who questioned her about her love for Senzo who had just died. During her first press conference shortly after Senzo’s death, Kelly broke down in tears while performing. Although she refused to talk about the tragic incident, Kelly addressed questions about being criticised for it being too soon for her to return to the limelight.

Despite the controversy that marred the soccer star’s death, Kelly remained silent about her pain and continued to keep her head up high. Never one to shy away from voicing her opinions, Kelly made it clear on numerous occasions that she has no time to entertain hate, or pay too much attention to people that don’t positively contribute to her life.

Instead she chose to focus on her children and building her career. For the first time since Senzo’s death on the day that marked one year since the tragic incident, Kelly opened up about her pain through an emotional blog. “ He is no less the love of my life now than he was when he was here, when I could see his face, touch him, talk to him, hear his laugh, watch how his face lit up whenever he saw out daughter,” Kelly wrote.

Later in a TV interview, kelly opened up about how the man she thought was an uncle was actually her father. She explained how he had died soon after Senzo, and the news almost sent her over the edge. Now though, stronger than ever before, Kelly considers herself highly blessed and high favoured.
