Johannesburg - Tears are common at a wedding, but when radio legend Bob Mabena tied-the-knot two weeks ago, there were tears for a different reason.
The Kaya FM DJ's brother, Victor, was unable to attend his brother's big day after surgery to remove a tumor.
Bob says the family had been waiting for doctors to operate on the tumor ever since Victor was involved in an accident late last year, and after the date of the wedding was changed, Victor was unable to make it.
Instead a letter from Victor was read at the wedding reception, bringing Bob and wedding guests to tears.
"I just broke down and cried after they read the letter. I couldn't handle the moment. It got so bad that I had to be taken away just so I could be fine. I was feeling quite emotional because it's only him and me left," Bob told Sowetan this week.
"Our parents died and our other sibling died when I was 11. Having him (Victor) there would have been the best present of my wedding day," Bob added.
With both the bride and the groom in tears, fellow Kaya FM DJ Thabo " T-bose" Mokwele stood up and offered a prayer.
The good news is that the prayer seems to have worked! Bob says Victor's surgery was a success and he is on the road to recovery.
