This is why AKA won’t be performing at Back to the City

Cape Town – AKA won’t be performing at Back to the City music festival this year because the organisers aren’t making a big enough deal of him.

In a statement released on his Twitter account AKA says he will not be performing at the music festival this year because as “one of the best live acts in Africa” he expected the organisers to “make a big deal” about him.

According to the post AKA pulled out of the line-up after noticing that international acts were getting more exposure than him on the flyers and posters promoting the event.

He wrote: “Instead of what we had agreed upon, my name was confined to what I can only describe as minor details on the flyer.

“I consider myself an International act. I have the tours‚ awards‚ following and most importantly the live show and music to prove it. With all due respect to Elzhi‚ Jay Live‚ Skyzoo & Camp Lo‚ I will not allow an artist like myself to be reduced to a minor detail.”

Back to the City takes place on 27 April in Johannesburg.

Bonang is AKA's inspiration:

Meanwhile the rapper is praising his new bae, Bonang, for his newfound zen presence and professionalism on social media.

In a recent Instagram post he wrote: "I always had style, I guess now I have the money and made the connections to dress nice. I'm in close proximity to someone who has made me rethink what it means to be a 'brand'. I used to have shitty social media management for instance .... I've just picked up a few things from her, observed, and made them my own. That's what happens when great people come together. Inspiration."
