Johannesburg - She's played numerous roles on both the big and small screen, but when Zikhona Sodlaka arrived at a school in Duncan Village in the Eastern Cape recently, she came as an angel of hope.
The Mandela:Long Walk to Freedom actress took some time out of her busy schedule to visit the school and offer some advice to its students.
Reflecting on her trip, Zikhona explained why she chose to visit the community she says holds no appeal and that is filled with examples of "lost hope."
"No one wants to go there. It's not fancy. The level of lost hope is on another lever in that hood," she wrote. "I could go on about why it's expected to give up on them but we all know some of the greatest people. Some of the most powerful, the wealthiest have an unappealing background."
"Somebody's gotta do it. I'll rub shoulders with them until their names are worth more than mine," she added.
