10 pics from the World Cocktail Championships in Cape Town that will make you wish it was Friday!

Cape Town - We’ve seen Tom Cruise doing it in Cocktail, the movie.  Now the world’s top bartenders and bar owners are flocking to South Africa for the battle of coolest bartender preparing the most delicious cocktail!

The 63rd meeting of the International Bartenders Association and the World Cocktail Championships is currently taking place at Cape Town’s famous International Convention Centre. South Africa is now the first African country to host the prestigious event.

It’s been three years since Etienne Schlechter, President of the South African Bartenders’ Association, entered his association’s bid and started planning and organizing the event.

“We are very excited and honoured to welcome the IBA family to the beautiful city of Cape Town. Over the last few months we have been hard at work preparing for the arrival of the 450 national and international guests,” he said.

The six day event kicked off with various seminars and workshops, giving local and international guests from countries such as the USA, Germany, France and Italy a chance to further their knowledge and to polish their skills for the “Flairtending” challenge and the World Cocktail Championship.

We got a taste of the good stuff at the Flairtending challenge! Check out the pics here:
