2015's word of the year is....not even a word

London- An emoji has been named the Word of the Year by Oxford Dictionaries.

The annual survey of Britain's developing vocabulary has handed the title to a pictograph for the first time.

The symbol, of a yellow smiley face that appears to be laughing and crying at the same time, is the Word of the Year because of its popularity on social media and in text messaging.

The emoji has won because Oxford Dictionaries believes it "embodies a core aspect of living in a digital world that is visually driven, emotionally expressive, and obsessively immediate".
