Cape Town – It’s not every day that a whole street gets closed for a whole day in a busy city so that the community can use it for some Sunday recreational activities.
But that’s exactly what happened in Cape Town on Sunday when the Open Streets Cape Town initiative closed Bree Street for traffic and opened it to the public.
It wasn’t your typical street event. There were no markets or stalls. It was just a street that was closed for a day and an invitation to the community to turn it into a playground.
And they did come. Thousands.
The result was magical. We should do this more often.
