According to The Mirror, the Defence Headquarters announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex accepted an invitation to visit the country to meet Service members and attend various cultural activities.
The couple's visit to the West African country will take place after Harry visits the UK, where he will attend numerous events related to the Invictus Games Foundation to celebrate the games' 10th anniversary.
The foundation will have a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral on 8 May. Homeland actor Damian Lewis will also be in attendance, reads a post on the Invictus Games' Instagram.
People magazine reports that Meghan will join Harry in Nigeria after that.
According to the publication, the visit will highlight Harry's Invictus Games, of which Nigeria was among the new entrants last year.
Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information in Nigeria, said, "The visit is to consolidate Nigeria's stronghold at the game and the possibility of hosting the event in later years," in a statement.
In 2022, Meghan revealed in an episode of her Archetypes podcast that she is 43% Nigerian after doing a genealogy test.
Harry joked during his opening speech at the Invictus Games last year: "Now I'm not saying we play favourites in our home… but since my wife discovered that she is of Nigerian descent, it's likely to get a little bit more competitive this year."
At the games, the couple posed for a photo with Team Nigeria, who presented them with a plaque from the Chief of Defence. Meghan was also given the nickname Amira Ngozi Lolo. According to People, Amira is the name of a warrior princess, Ngozi means "blessed", and Lolo means "royal wife."
