Cape Town - Afrikaans singer David Kramer refused to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award at a gala event two weeks ago, because it meant he would have to share the stage with controversial singer Steve Hofmeyr.
According to an article published by Netwerk24 on Sunday, Kramer was due to receive the honour at a high-profile, private event hosted at Rust en Vrede Wine Estate by Alexa Strachan, Aardklop festival manager.
Kramer was expected to attend the event alongside other well-known Afrikaans singers such as Coenie de Villiers, Stef Bos and Lize Beekman but at the last minute decided to withdraw when it came to light that Hofmeyr's name was also on the program.
According to Netwerk24, Kramer was also not interested in collecting the award after the ceremony had taken place. He declined to comment.

Hofmeyr is known for his controversial views and political agendas. The singer said he was aware of the criticism against him but said he "would always fight against artists who suppress the opinions of others". He added: "Ánd against their weird love of race based law".
"I challenge liberals, democrats and other snowflakes to a debate in which they can convince me that conservatives, like myself, don't deserve an income or a podium," Hofmeyr said.
