5FM announces new DJ line-up

Cape Town - 5FM have announced details of their annual DJ shake-up, with three new voices joining the radio station from 1 April.

The commercial station's core weekday timeslots remain unchanged, with Gareth Cliff on 5FM mornings from 06:00–09:00, Rob Forbes and Fix from 09:00–12:00, Rob Vember from noon-15:00, The Fresh Drive with DJ Fresh from 15:00–19:00 and The Roger Goode show from 19:00–22:00.

Weekends will keep with Thomas Msengana and the Weekend Breakfast team (07:00–10:00) offering weekend lifestyle entertainment, and the 5FM Top 40 presented by Sureshnie Rider from 10:00. Much of the weekend line-up remains unchanged.

New to the youthful line-up is Capetonian DJ Stephanie B, from 5FM's sister SABC station Good Hope FM, who will host the 22:00–01:00 slot from Mondays to Thursdays.

No more Power Nites

Stephanie's shows replace the 5FM Power Nites which previously set blocks aside each weekday which focused on specific musical genres, meaning that shows such as Rock Nites with Jon Savage, Pop Nites with Poppy Ntshongwana and Nites of Dance with Fresh and Euphonik have been discontinued.

Jon Savage will be hosting his final Power Nites of Rock show from 22:00 on Thursday night.

Also joining 5FM is Soweto-born Ms Cosmo, a hip-hop enthusiast, Channel O VJ and former YFM DJ who will be bringing her passion for hip-hop to the air on Sunday nights from 22:00–01:00.

Rounding out the new voices is Johannesburg-based radio presenter, Justin Toerien. Justin started his radio career as a teenager in campus radio and comes to national radio from 94.7 Highveld Stereo and will  host the early morning slot on weekends from 01:00–04:00.

5FM also announced that The Ultimix Weekend Edition, hosted by DJ Euphonik on Saturdays, will extend for an additional hour from 18:00 to 22:00 – due to popular demand.

New shows coming soon include 5FM's Beats by Demand - a Sunday Live Request show from 10:00-14:00 - which will find an extended home in the Fresh Drive and partner using mobile technology, listener interaction and the All Star 5FM DJ line-up to provide a new listener experience.
