Former Generations actor Mandla Hlatshwayo died trying to save others

Cape Town – According to online reports former Generations actor and JoziFM DJ Mandla Hlatshwayo, 40, has been shot dead. 

Hlatshwayo and a friend were reportedly gunned down in Pimville, Soweto during a robbery at a pub on Sunday night. 

Police spokesperson Captain Hitler Mgwenya confirmed that two people were shot dead at a pub in Pimville at 23:00 on Sunday night. 

Mgwenya added that the victims tried to help other people in the pub who were being robbed.

Mpho Mhlongo, JoziFM CEO, also confirmed the tragic news on Facebook: "It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of our beloved brother, friend and colleague, Mandla Hlatshwayo. He was gunned down last night at Meli pub in Pimville. He will be sorely missed. May his humble soul Rest In Peace!"

Hlatshwayo was best known for his role as Siphiwe Phosa on the SABC1 soapie Generations, a role he played for seven years.
