Cape Town - Tears of joy streamed down her face when she got the news that her father is cancer-free, singer Amor Vittone told YOU on Wednesday, a week after her dad collapsed.
Until recently, the Vittone family were tight-lipped about why Dario (78) collapsed at his daughter’s home in Dainfern, Johannesburg, on Friday, 2 August.
Amor’s assistant, Edward Strick, told YOU on Tuesday the family were awaiting the results of tests before they spoke to the media about Dario’s condition.
In the space of a week, Dario had a cancer scare and a “mini heart attack”.
But on Wednesday Amor’s mother, Delyse (70), said the family could breathe a huge sigh of relief.
“We’ve been through a tough time, but we got the wonderful news last night,” Delyse says.
“The last week in July, an MRI showed Dario has cancer. A biopsy was done to confirm and the results only became available last night.”
The MRI results showed that Dario has a bacterial infection in the prostate gland, instead of cancer.
Delyse says doctors suspect the infection had affected Dario’s heart, which led to his collapse. The couple had been watching Amor’s children, Jordan (15) and Kylie (13), when Dario collapsed.
After receiving the good news, Amor (47) declared her dad’s cancer-free status on Facebook and thanked everyone for their prayers.
Delyse says Dario is still in a private hospital in Johannesburg and might be discharged on Friday.
“We’re so incredibly grateful that our prayers were answered,” she says.
“It was so nerve-racking waiting on the results but Amor and the kids are OK. We want to thank everyone who prayed for our family.”
