Joost and Amor need to resolve their issues

Joost van der Westhuizen
Divorce is in most cases a nasty affair and there is always two sides to a story, However. Once Joost dies (and it would seem that he will succumb to this illness sooner rather than later), the South African public will make him a hero regardless of what mistakes he has made – that’s just how we are.  (and he deserves to be remembered as a hero for his amazing accomplishments on the rugby field).

Amor however, will be left behind to deal with the scorn and ridicule that will come her way for not making more of an effort for her children to be with their father more.  I’m not saying that Amor is wrong in whatever their divorce differences may be but unfortunately in these circumstances she needs to be the bigger person and make the effort for the sake of her children and to try and make the last years of Joost’s life as good as they can be.

Yes he did terrible things to her with the lies and the sex tape but she needs to find some superhuman strength and put it behind her.  Two wrongs are never going to make a right.  In years to come she will want to be able to look her children in the eyes and say: "I did the best I could for you and your dad during his final years".

Regret is a terrible thing and they both still have time to make this a happy ending.  She also needs to remember that in years to come all the fighting and hatred will disappear and mean nothing – only the good memories will remain.

My hope for this family is that someone will find a way to mediate between them and bring them to a place that works for all of them instead of just making the lawyers rich.
