Well done Khaya!

Almost 3 million South Africans voted in the past week in the hottest Idols contest in many years, M-Net said in a statement.

The 25-year-old winner of Idols Season 8 Khaya Mthethwa from Durban beat out 23-year-old Melissa Allison from Port Elizabeth to clinch the title by receiving the most votes from viewers.

Here is a look at some our users that congratulated Khaya on his win, weighed in on the final perfomances and Khaya's future:

Alan Harper:
"I think he was a deserved winner as he seemed to grow every week in his performances. I also think labeling him as our first black winner is totally unnecessary, as we surely have moved on now from a black / white thing. If you were a blind person and listened to his voice and performances, there is no doubt that he really deserves to be the winner. His new song will also do extremely well as it's his own expression and a really nice sound for an SA artist."

Teboho Thembe: "Khaya deserved to win. He delivered in a humble manner throughout the season. He seems to be a mature young man who will represent SA well internationally. I also think Khaya & Melissa do make a great couple (something they can consider)."

Evelyn Sauls: "Kaya your humbleness will take you far in your career. Thank you for coming up for Mellisa. Both of you were very good and professional, but the rules of the competition made provision for only one winner. In my eyes and in God's you are both winners. The challenge now is to succeed and not to given under the pressure of fame. The sad part for me is that people can be sometimes so heartless not taking other peoples feelings into consideration, there for the booing towards Mellisa was uncalled for.  Both worked very hard to get to the top two. Kaya good luck for the future."

Brenda Kandasamy: "Khaya well done and may God bless you in the future. You are an humble man of God and you know what it feels to be booed. I am glad you acknowledged this sense from the supporters, you are a true citizen of SA . Well done and keep growing with Jesus by your side. Do not forget your roots."
