Reader review: Moulin Rouge

2012-07-08 14:15
Moulin Rouge is my favourite musical of all time, the movie takes my breath every time I watch it, when the red curtain opens & the dramatic orchestra starts playing emotions start flowing, my heart pumps with excitement and I just know I am in for a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Its a familiar yet slightly different story about a love affair between a penniless writer Christian played by Ewan McGregor and a dying courtesan Satine played by Nicole Kidman.

Its set in Paris around the infamous Moulin Rouge, a brothel in the poorer  part of town filled with creatives  - Far the best part of the movie are the spectacular musical songs which remind me of the days of Sophiatown in Joburg.

This movie is filled with drama, music, romance and tragedy all based in a play called "Spectacular Spectacular" which makes for great viewing.
