Bye bye, Betty!

That Friday night slot was the cancer that killed this great show. Ag, shame man!

After ratings plummeted with its last season in the US, ABC have decided to make the 4th season of Ugly Betty its last. The original episode run of 22 weeks will also be cut to 20. The execs tried to soft-soap the situation, saying that they'll give producers enough time to script a decent farewell. Gosh, how nice of you! It's just like the people who feel good when they give their mouldy bread to the homeless. They put the ASS in assistance.

Maybe this axing could have been avoided if they'd never pushed Betty to Friday nights, but the original Colombian TV novella that Ugly Betty  is based on was never meant to run season after season. Perhaps it's just not the type of material that can be stretched that far. A sign of quality, we think.

For those of us who've just met Betty (season 1 started on SABC 3 last week), it's going to be a bitter-sweet acquaintance now that her screen-time is limited. Now that America Ferrera can be pretty again, we wonder what kind of gigs she'll get.

Which Ugly Betty character will you miss most?
