Double Take: L'Vovo the Copycat

Copycat gets the claw

Kwaito star L'Vovo Derrango is our Stupid Star of the week! His latest album, "The Heavyweight" dropped last week and if you haven't seen it, here's a close up.

Look familiar? Damn right! The fat cat basically re-printed Jay-Z's American Gangster cover and slapped his name on it! It's like Weird Al Yankovic gone all wrong.  As a result, it's reported that his album will be pulled from the shelves because of this blatant lack of creativity.

Sunday World reports that Jay-Z's local record company, Universal, are incensed by this copyright infringement. This could mean BIG trouble for L'Vovo's label who are clearly oblivious to anything else going on in the music world, otherwise they would have never OKed this cover.  Really now, would hiring a good art designer have put that much of a dent in the label's pocket?

The real joke is that L'Vovo's manager, Thobela Dlamini, sees nothing wrong with the cover and says it's just a ploy by the Americans to take control of our music industry. You can stop laughing now...

We think this is a real slap in the face to any true South African artist who's trying to get by on their own coat tails, not the Armani versions of international celebs.
