1) Charlize Theron (42)

Kids: August Theron (3), Jackson Theron (6)

The South African beauty is currently doing the press circuit for her latest comedy-drama, Tully. Charlize gained 20kg for her role in the film which takes an honest look at motherhood and the mental as well as physical toll it takes on mothers.

Charlize has been brutally honest about the hardships of being a parent. But has also expressed the joy of having adopted her two children. In a recent interview with ELLE magazine she said; “I have bad days. I make mistakes. Going through the tantrum stages when they’re being really difficult. And they choose the worst moments. It’s a lot for one person. But after six years of having my two nuggets, there’s not a day when I wish I hadn’t done this.”

2) Kristen Bell (37)

Kids: Delta Bell Shepard (3), Lincoln Shepard (5)

The Bad Moms actress is also known as a celebrity mom who keeps it real. In fact in a recent online series for The Ellen Show, titled Momsplaining, the 37-year-old star got brutally honest about motherhood.

"In the age of social media, when you can edit your life in beautiful pictures, it's important to remind moms that all of us are wearing yogurt and all of our hands smell like urine," Kristen told Redbook in a recent interview. She added; "When you present an unrealistic idea of perfection to people, it's not fair." She makes this list for keeping it real. Go Kristen!

3) Jodie Foster (55)

Kids: Charles "Charlie" Foster (19), Christopher "Kit" Foster (16)

Jodie Foster is a great mom because despite the intense glare of the media spotlight she has managed to keep their children relatively out of public eye. The director and actress strives hard to keep the media focus on her professional projects which is why most people don’t know that Jodie married her girlfriend Alexandra Hedison in 2014 after a year of dating, creating a blended family.

When not working hard Jodie can be seen taking her sons for a simple ice-cream or having lunch in the family friendly restaurants of Santa Monica, because she’s likes to keep her kids just as grounded and unpretentious as she is. That’s what makes her a great mom.

4) Angelina Jolie (42)

Kids: Maddox (16), Pax (14), Zahara (13), Shiloh (11), and Vivienne and Knox (9).

Raising six kids is a lot to handle and should be lauded. Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent or a Hollywood superstar like Angelina Jolie who takes it all in stride, with a great support team. Along with being an awesome mom The Tomb Raider star has also made it her life’s work to help children all around the world with her work with The UN and other organisations. She adopted 3 kids and gave birth to 3 more but it’s fair to say that she’s a caregiver to so many more through her selfless efforts setting an incredible example for young clan.

What’s even more impressive is how Angelina has grown from being a leading lady to a producer and director in 2017 when she helmed First They Killed My Father which tells the story of Cambodian human rights activist Loung Ung and what she suffered as a child under the rule of the deadly Khmer Rouge; teaching her children that family and passion projects can co-exist.

5) DJ Zinhle (34)

Kid: Kairo Owethu Forbes (3)

DJ Zinhle (Ntombezinhle Jiyane) is a super-mom, balancing her music career (which often includes a lot of travel, and late-night gigs) with raising a growing 3-year-old daughter. Despite her tiring schedule, the doting mother is committed to her daughter’s education and development. Kairo speaks both English and isiZulu, goes for swimming lessons and loves to play with shapes.

They say it takes a village, and Zinhle is not alone. Mothers themselves, Lynn Forbes and aunty Pearl Thusi are always ready to lend a helping hand.

6) Rachel Kolisi (28)

Kids: Nicholas (2), Keziah (5-months), Liyema (15), Liphelo (9)

Together with her husband, Bok flank Siya Kolisi, the couple raise four beautiful children in Cape Town. In 2014 Rachel and her husband took custody of Siya’s half-siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, who spent five years in orphanages and in foster care in Port Elizabeth after their mother passed away in 2009.

Even with a brood at home, Rachel has committed herself to children who need access to education and sporting opportunities.   Rachel is also very passionate about preparing her children for their financial future and has been vocal about teaching her children to spend wisely and save.

7) Shonda Rhimes

Kids: Harper (15), Emmerson (6), Beckett (4)

A single mother, Shonda proves that women can indeed have it all. In her book, A Year of Yes she talks extensively about being a present parent and how motherhood/being a mother is not a job.

In an interview with People, Shonda says that she is raising headstrong, independent daughters who no one will take advantage of. Shonda herself is the perfect example of a strong woman and through her characters she is creating more strong woman as a blueprint for now and future generations.

8) Chrissy Teigen

Kids: Luna (2), expecting a baby boy in June

Chrissy has been very open about her motherhood journey, she first shined a light on infertility struggles and then too about her post-natal depression.
She has also deglamourised motherhood which we often perceive with celebrity mothers. In interviews she has been quiet vocal about the struggle to juggle motherhood and her work and says she wouldn’t have been able to cope without her husband and her mom’s help. This is quiet refreshing as celebrity mothers rarely reveal this side of motherhood.

9) Kris Jenner

Kids: Kourtney Kardashian (39), Kim Kardashian (37), Khloe Kardashian (33), Rob Kardashian (31), Kendall Jenner (22) and Kylie Jenner (20)

As a mother of six and a grandmother of nine, Kris Jenner has been raising kids since she was 23 and has made it crystal clear that her family is her number one priority. Known as the matriarch of her family, Kris has not only raised successful entrepreneurs but has created an empire, managing and guiding her children in their journey to the top.

With the most successful reality TV show, that’s been running for a decade, Kris and her kids have no secrets, which can sometimes (or most of the time) expose controversy and makes for great television. And one thing is for sure - when the going gets tough, Kris Jenner gets going. She is always there for her kids, no matter what they might have done or are going through making her not only the best momager but the best mom in the world.

10) Pink

Kids: Willow Sage Hart (6) and Jameson Moon Hart (1)

Pink has always been vocal about the ways in which she strives to raise her children and is not afraid to admit she is not perfect and has made mistakes, too. She told People magazine in April that she has learned to take things “day by day” because “you never know if anything you’re doing is working,” eliminating the perception that moms need to always be perfect.

Her open mindedness has also made a massive impact with regards to today’s social climate. The 38-year-old championed gender neutrality in an interview with Mirror, saying that she thinks It’s great that kids are no longer being defined by their gender. Showing support for your children and allowing them to express themselves is very important for their growth as well as how they can change social constructs in the future.
