Cape Town - It’s been a rough year for relationships in Hollywood…
1. Josh Duhamel and Fergie
Despite their frequent social media posts of themselves looking like a happy family the hunky actor and the sexy singer announced their split in September after eight years of marriage.
According to insiders the pair, who share a son, Axl (4), simply grew apart. “There wasn’t one big fight or final straw. They have a lot of love for each other and for each other’s families and there’s no bad blood,” a source told E! News. Fergie herself said post-split that they’re still “great friends who love each other”.
2. Chris Pratt & Anna Faris
It seems fame ultimately cost this acting couple their eight-year marriage. In August the pair, who share a son, Jack (5), posted a joint statement on social media announcing the split. “We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. We still have love for each other; will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another,” it read.
A source told E! News that as Chris’ fame grew over the years it “changed their dynamic publicly and in private and Anna felt like she’d lost her voice.” The two also allegedly had different parenting styles, which caused a wedge.
In happier times . . . On Mother’s Day Chris posted a gushing post to Anna.
3. Ben Stiller & Christine Taylor
They were considered one of the strongest marriages in Hollywood . . . until this year. After 17 years together, virtually a lifetime in Hollywood terms, fans were shocked when this acting couple announced their separation in May.
The pair starred together in five movies and share two children - daughter Ella (15) and son Quinlin (11).
“They are a very loving family," a source, who doesn't expect a messy uncoupling, told People. "[Christine] and Ben respect each other and will do anything to make sure their kids are happy."

4. Janet Jackson & Wissam Al Mana
People couldn’t believe it when the pop star and the Saudi billionaire called it quits in April just three months after welcoming their first child, son Eissa, in London. Since then it’s emerged that the All For You singer felt her husband, who she secretly wed in 2012, had gotten too controlling during their marriage and especially her pregnancy, according to ET Online.
She’s since reclaimed her career, much to the delight of her fans.
5. Mel B & Stephen Belafonte
Just a few months shy of their 10-year anniversary in June, the former Spice Girl and America’s Got Talent judge filed for divorce from her producer hubby, amidst tales of domestic abuse, cheating, and more.
After an ugly court case during which time Mel B requested a restraining order against her ex, with whom she shares a daughter, Madison (6) they’ve now reached a settlement.
6. Scarlett Johansson & Romain Duraic
The Oscar-winner ended her second marriage early this year. After secretly splitting from her French art curator husband last year, she made things official when she filed for divorce in March, citing their two-year union as “irretrievably broken” and seeking joint custody of their daughter, Rose (2).
Scarlett has previously described marriage as a “beautiful idea” but says she “doesn’t think it’s natural to be a monogamous person.”
7. Jennifer Hudson & David Otunga
No one saw this one coming! In November the Oscar and Grammy winner made the shock announcement that she’d ended her 10-year relationship with the former wrestler.
She then asked the courts for a protective order, accusing her ex-fiancé of abusive behaviour towards her and their son, David Jr (8), which she later dropped, PopSugar reports. David has consistently denied all her claims.
8. Selena Gomez & The Weeknd
Ten months after first linking up, music’s hottest couple called it quits in October.
According to sources their busy schedules played a part, but it seemed neither party was too cut up about it. Not long after Selena was back in the arms of her first love, pop star Justin Bieber, while the Starboy hitmaker was seen visiting his ex, model Bella Hadid, ET Online reports.
9. Ewan McGregor & Eve Mavrakis
In another shock split, actor Ewan McGregor’s 22-year marriage to the mother of his four daughters, Eve Mavrakis, came to an abrupt end amidst speculation he’d embarked on an affair with his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, People reports.
Those rumours were quickly confirmed when photos of the pair making out in a London cafe emerged in October.
10. Cuba Gooding Jr & Sara Kapfer
In January the People vs OJ Simpson star officially ended his 23 year marriage to high-school sweetheart, Sara Gooding, by slapping her with divorce papers – a move said to be in response to her request for a legal separation in 2014.
In court papers the Oscar-winner cited “irreconcilable differences” and asked for joint custody of their youngest child, 11-year-old daughter, Piper (they also share two adult children, Spencer and Mason).
