Los Angeles - Alanis Morissette claims her former housekeeper stole her pet dog.

The Head Over Feet hitmaker and her husband Mario Souleye Treadway have filed a lawsuit against Maria Garcia, claiming she has the pooch, whose name is Circus, and refused to return it to them.

The couple - who have two-year-old son Ever together - found the Chihuahua/Pug cross on the streets in 2011, and adopted him after taking him to an animal shelter where he went unclaimed.

However, after Maria was fired from her role as House Manager in January, she sent an e-mail to her former employers' business manager stating she wanted “ownership” of Circus as part of her severance package because she was close to him as she was frequently left to care for him when the musicians went on tour.

However, according to TMZ, Alanis and Mario have filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court in which they are asking their ex-employee for over $25 000 and they want the judge to “order” the return of their pet.

As well as her legal battle, the 39-year-old singer has a busy year ahead, as she has a world tour planned and is also working on a Broadway musical based on her iconic album Jagged Little Pill.
