Emily Blunt's husband has never heard her sing

Los Angeles - John Krasinski didn't know Emily Blunt could sing.

The Into the Woods actress claims her husband of four years was very surprised when she told him she was auditioning for role of The Baker's Wife in the new musical, which recently earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

The 31-year-old star said: ''I think he was surprised even to hear that I was auditioning for a musical, because I hadn't really sung in front of him ever - hummed in the car a few times, but nothing really. I think he was pretty taken aback.''

The British beauty used to think her mother was just being nice when she praised her vocal ability.

She told E! News: ''My mom always thought I was a good singer, but I think all moms think their kids are good singers. That's why you see these poor disillusioned people auditioning for American Idol.''

Now that she has faced her fear of singing in public, Emily says she ''would be up for'' appearing on Broadway in the future.

She said: ''I would be up for it, but I would be terrified. I would only want to do it with Rob [director Rob Marshall]. I'll only do it with him. He's the only one who is kind enough to let me mess up.''

The Devil Wears Prada star previously admitted that she loves to sing the ''old standards'' to her nine-month-old daughter, Hazel.

She said: ''I like to sing old standards to my baby daughter.

''Some of my favourites for Hazel include songs by Ella Fitzgerald and Otis Redding. She seems to like them.''

Emily was recently on The Ellen Degeneres Show promoting her movie, Into the Woods:
